Vertigo on 10th Street

I also missed the first challenge because I was too slow to upload photos. So this week I decided to take advantage of a small break in the clouds and snap a few bird's eye shots from my apartment. I shoot everything with a Nikon D80 and my lens is a Nikkor 18-135mm zoom.

I may go back out and shoot tomorrow but with VSO and other events, not to mention the nasty weather...this might be it for the weekend.

The first one really captures the essence of the challenge for me, and is beautifully composed. Nice bright colors and an actual sense of vertigo. Bravo!

I agree with Ann about the first photo. Even if I hadn't known the challenge, I could have named it because of the very strong sense of height that it conveys. The colors are vivid, the angle has that great mix of casual and composed in that the view is askew, but there are no angles that are perfectly parallel to any border which might have happened if it were casually composed. The fact that an unsuspecting biker is riding below really makes me feel like a bird drawing a bead on a target, too. This is in the running for my favorite.

The second photo is well arranged also, but invokes a sense of majesty for man's works, or architecture or maths, and not so much the sense of this challenge. I do really like the blues and reds -- they bring Superman to mind, but not a bird. ;-)

I really love the colors in the first one, as well as the composition. Even though the weather was dreary, the colors are nice and bold. The second one is really great too; I really like repetition of shapes or colors in photos. The clouds almost look like steam, which is neat. Great submission!
